The Yoga Institute was founded in the year 1918 in Mumbai by Pujya Shri Yogendra Ji. Yogendra Ji realized the importance of Yoga and its many benefits. He started The Yoga Institute in Versova, Mumbai on December 25, 1918, with the aim of bringing the traditional knowledge of Yoga into the lives of ordinary men and women. He worked hard to break all social barriers that kept Yoga out of the reach of these simple folks who worked and toiled to provide for their families. The Institute moved to its current Santacruz location in 1948.
For over a hundred years, The Yoga Institute has been at the service of the ordinary householders, bringing the ancient wisdom of Yoga into their lives. Spread over one acre of land amidst nature, with three buildings dedicated to Yogic activities, this non-profit organization has been running on its own strength for 100 years now. About 2000 persons visit the Institute every day for training and health consultations.
